Osun Arts Foundation
Osun Arts Foundation aims are to increase awareness of African arts and culture, to further the ideal of the UK as a vibrant multi-cultural society, and to provide training and educational opportunities – for children and young people, elders, BME and disabled groups and individuals, long-term unemployed, asylum seekers and refugees – using arts and cultural activities, performances, workshops, exhibitions and publications as vehicles for delivery.
Osun Arts Foundation was founded in 1992 and became a registered charity in 1994 (Charity registered in the UK No:1039875). Osun therefore is a non-profit making organisation.
We organise participatory combined arts workshops, in schools, colleges, community and arts centres. These provide a broad range of art-based mediums practised by experienced workshops facilitators.
Our experience and expertise has made us a valued organisation providing an opportunity for often neglected and disadvantaged, rural and urban communities to experience African culture close up.
We also produce African-themed shows for the purposes of education and entertainment. These productions have been performed all over the UK and parts of Europe, using traditional art forms combined with authentic costumes and settings.
Since 1994, we have performed and delivered workshops in the United Kingdom. We delivered training, workshops, performances and developed projects in the following areas of the UK:
- England covering Cornwall, Dorset, Somerset, Wiltshire, East & West Sussex, Suffolk & Norfolk, Lincolshire, Hertfordshire, London, Hertfordshire, Oxfordshire, Worchestershire, Shropshire, Lancashire, Chesire, Meseyside, Manchester and Cumbria.
- Scotland covering, Falkirk, Clackmannanshire, East and West Lothian Councils, most of the Highland Council to the top of Scottish mountains.
Wales covering Powys, Denbighshire, Flintshire and Wrexham
- At Osun we believe in participation not perfection; the idea that anyone of any age or ability can join in with our programmes and enjoy what we do without awkwardness. We seek to provide an enriching experience for all participants, giving them the opportunity to touch, use and interact with a wide range of art forms.
